Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu (2010) Movie Review

Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu (2010)
Cast : Nani, Saranya Mohan
Director : Tatineni Satya

Mega Super good films Pvt. Ltd. comes up with yet another remake and this time it is a remake of a Tamil hit flick ‘Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu’. Nani who had an impressive start to his career is the protagonist of this film. Tatineni Satya who belongs to directors family made his debut as a director with ‘Bheemili… Kabaddi Jattu’.
This story is about a Kabaddi team that doesn’t have self confidence and self belief that they can win. This team of losers goes on to become ultimate champs and bring name and fame to their hometown Bheemili. How and when, forms the crux of this story.
Sooribabu (Nani) is left out of school due to his father’s sudden demise and starts working for Dora. He has so much passion and love towards Kabaddi game from his childhood itself and there are six other guys who used to play the game along with him. Everyone settles down in various professions but Kabaddi unites them at one place. In spite of constant attempts to win a trophy Bheemili team never succeeds in doing so.
Then comes a Kabaddi coach Prakash (Kishore) to their rescue. The team’s fortunes changes forever under his guidance. In the middle of all this Sooribabu has a love track. He falls in love with a girl (Saranya Mohan) who comes to their village to see jathara. He doesn’t even know the name of her and waits to see her again as she promises to return to their village for the next jathara. Will she come back? Does Soori get to know her name? Will the Bheemili team win the Kabaddi championship? Watch the movie to find the answers.
Nani did a role of a village guy in a convincing manner. This role is completely in contrast to what he has done in Ashta Chamma and Ride. Even then Nani is at ease in essaying this role. Saranya Mohan is cute and her performance is good. Kishore as the Kabaddi coach did a commendable job. Kishore, who earlier shined in negative roles proved his mettle in a positive character too. Dhanraj, Santosh and others did their best as kabaddi team members. They also handled the comedy part and did manage to tickle the audiences in few scenes.
Dialogs are funny in few scenes but on a whole the dialog writer did an average job. Music by Selva Ganesh is good. Though the songs are not catchy enough, the background score plays big role in carrying the feel of the movie. Cinematography is very good considering the budget of the film. Other departments did well as per the film’s requirements.
Tatineni Satya, grandson of Tatineni Prakasha Rao, is impressive in handling the romantic scenes well. Even though he strictly followed the original screenplay sticking to the Tamil version, Satya did a commendable job for a first timer. His taking is good and there aren’t any glaring errors on the technical front. However, he should’ve taken more care in making subtle changes to this remake. Rather sincerely sticking to the original he could’ve tried to better it to suit the tastes of our audience. The shocking climax didn’t have the necessary impact due to the poor etching of the characters.
If Bheemili scores any brownie points, those will be attributed to the original script writer and the actors. Director’s share is very less on the positive side of the film as he failed to bring the soul into this movie.
Bheemili has some positives but the negatives dominate leaving the audience asking for more. Kabaddi lovers can watch this for the second half where the game was given a bigger slice than everything else. The makers should focus immediately on the promotion as the film opened to poor attendance all over.
What works?
-          Nani’s sincere performance
-          Background score
-          Kabaddi backdrop
Weak links!
-          Excessive Tamil flavor
-          Slow pace
-          Poor etching of characters
Final Say:
Bheemili is only for Kabaddi lovers!
